June Drake worked tirelessly to persuade the federal government to set this land aside as a
national park. The National Park Service, however, was unconvinced. Drake then turned to
the state of Oregon, enlisting the Salem and Silverton Chambers of Commerce to buy options
on parcels to sell to the state. He, too, reached into his own pocket, purchasing 160 acres to
help establish this park. - (Excerpt form the commemorative plaque located in the historic
district of the park.)
By far one of the most beautiful hiking experiences we have done. Not only is Silver Falls
State Park National Park caliber, we would rank it above some National Parks we have seen.
You can't visit Oregon and not stop here. Our Hike on this day was The Trail of 10 Falls, a
loop approximately 7 miles long. Pictured below are 9 of the 10 falls. Winter falls is not
shown. The park is located on Silver Falls HWY SE (HWY 214), east of Salem.
